Introducing Jess….

Jess is the visual impairment lead within school. Jess works closely alongside the ETHV team to ensure our students receive support with their visual impairment. Jess has training in; colour tent therapy, positive eye and Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI).

As part of the visual impairment lead role there are several roles including; creating bespoke visual profiles, completing assessments and generating personalised targets related to student’s visual impairment. Jess also creates personalised resources for students including; objects of reference, tactile books and tactile maps.

Within school Jess co-ordinates the ETHV external training to ensure our staff have the most up to date information about visual impairment. She also co-runs our own bespoke training alongside the Specialist Speech and Language Therapist covering Visual Impairment and Communication. Jess and Steph (Specialist Speech and Language Therapist) assess and support our students in using eye gaze technology to work on visual skills using specialist software and creating related IEPs where applicable. Jess works closely with classes and students to ensure that visual needs are recognised, understood and worked upon.

Please ask our class teams if you require any further information 😊
