The Primary PE and Sport Premium

This funding is allocated to schools from the government.  The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.  The Primary PE and Sport Premium will be paid by the Secretary of State for Education to the proprietor of the academy as a grant under Section 14 of the Education Act 2002.

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all primary-aged pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.

Schools must spend the PE and sport premium funding in within the academic year it has been allocated for and funding should not be allocated only to benefit a certain year group.

Maintained schools, including those that convert to academies, MUST publish, on their website, information about their effective and sustainable use of the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding.

The reporting deadline is July each year.

Schools must publish the amount of Primary PE and Sport Premium received for each year. A full breakdown of how it has been spent (or will be spent); what impact the school has seen on pupils’ Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity, participation and attainment and how the improvements will be sustainable in the future.  This reporting mechanism ensures schools such as Humberston Park School are grant compliant in demonstrating effective use of the funding to achieve a sustainable impact.

5 Key Indicators

There are 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across:

  1. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  2. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
  3. The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport

What the PE and Sport Premium is for

We use the PE and Sport Premium funding to:

  • support all our learners to live healthy, active lives
  • make participation in our Physical Development and sport sessions easier
  • make sure all learners can achieve and thrive through increased physical activity and sport, no matter their background or ability
  • improve learners’ health, wellbeing, personal development and academic attainment
  • embed the foundations of positive and enjoyable participation in regular physical activity.

What we use the premium for

We continue to use the PE and Sport Premium funding in accordance with the conditions of grant.

We use the PE and sport premium funding to:

  • build capacity and capability in the school, ensuring improvements to the quality of Physical Development, sport and related activity provision are sustainable and will benefit pupils joining HPS in future
  • develop or add to the sport, leisure and physical activity that we provide

Trustees scrutinise HPS’s strategy statements, including the:

  • plans for and use of the PE and Sport Premium funding
  • the outcomes achieved in the previous academic year

Trustees monitor how the funding is being spent and how it fits into our school improvement plans, whilst assessing the impact the spending has on our learners.
