Trustee Vacancies

Following the appointment of our new Headteacher in September, we are now looking for people with new ideas and a fresh perspective to join our Board of Trustees.

Humberston Park School is an all-through, single Special Academy, offering day provision for young people aged 3-19 with Severe Learning Difficulties and profound and multiple difficulties, Autism and/or neurological conditions and associated special educational needs and disabilities. Many of our pupils have additional needs, requiring complex physical and medical support. This is provided by a high-quality transdisciplinary team.

You don’t need to be a leader in education to join our Board of Trustees; we want people with diverse skills, fresh perspectives and new ideas that complement the experience of our forward thinking and creative leadership team.

We would especially like to hear from people with a range of skills and experiences. In particular, we welcome applications from people with experience in:

- strategic leadership in special education

- audit and financial management

- corporate governance

- legalities and compliance

- human resources

Being a trustee is a hugely rewarding form of voluntary work

Trustees can make a real difference to our pupils and our local community by actively contributing to the success of our academy. As strategic leaders of the Academy Trust, it is vital that the Trust Board is connected with, and engages the communities and stakeholders it serves.

Becoming a trustee can be good for your career. Holding a position on a board of any kind tells prospective employers that your skills and experience are highly valued. It marks you out as a leader in your field, whether that’s in HR, marketing, finance or any other area. By joining the board of a SEND organisation, you are directly contributing to the social inclusion and empowerment of hundreds of young people.

If you’re passionate about special education, then becoming a trustee at Humberston Park School is a great opportunity to drive change: We will provide you with support and guidance in your journey from our experienced trustees.

If you’d like to know more about the role and how you can apply, email our Business Manager, Gemma Rylatt at bmhpss@hpark.org.uk in the first instance.

Your commitment

The Board is responsible for setting and reviewing the Trust’s purpose, ethos and strategic direction. A rewarding and valuable role, our trustees are also responsible for:

- holding leaders to account for educational and financial performance

- maintaining stability and the management of a dynamic structure

- contributing to financial planning for sustainability and potential growth

Our Board meets termly, three times a year at Humberston Park School, NE Lincolnshire. Trustees are also asked to support two of the committees which meet at least termly, in addition to the main Board meetings. Meetings typically last up to two hours and trustees devote additional time to preparing for meetings and attending relevant and statutory training.

Humberston Park School and its members and trustees, are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its pupils and expects everybody to

share this commitment. We actively seek DBS enhanced clearance checks and any application will automatically include the active pursuit of all safeguarding procedures.

This is a volunteer role, but travel expenses will be reimbursed in line with our expenses policy.
